Responsibilities
- The Teradyne Hardware Engineering team is looking for a technically driven Senior Calibration Engineer to serve as a hands-on technical lead for calibration of instruments within the Compute Test division. This is a player-coach role. You will own calibration architecture and development for one or more instrument areas, and you will lead a small team of 3–4 calibration engineers. Supervisory responsibilities are less than 50% of the role; most of your time goes to technical work. Development happens in a dynamic, multi-site environment. This role reports to the Calibration Software Engineering Manager.
- Own the calibration architecture and strategy for assigned Digital, DC, AC and/or RF instruments in ATE equipment, from requirements through production release.
- Develop and review calibration programs and embedded algorithms in C/C++/C# and Python.
- Author and approve calibration strategy documents that define the HW circuits needed for instruments to meet accuracy specifications, using knowledge of low-level analog and digital circuits.
- Lead development of HW error budgets, and offline and online validation of error terms, using statistical analysis to determine specification and process compliance.
- Define offline and online tests that validate instrument calibration and HW performance, including simulation with Verilog and SPICE.
- Lead root-cause analysis of calibration and HW performance issues, and drive corrective action with cross-functional HW, SW, test and manufacturing teams.
- Integrate external measurement equipment (DMMs, spectrum analyzers, power meters) into calibration and validation programs.
- Drive continuous improvement in calibration accuracy, test time and repeatability.
- Lead 3–4 calibration engineers: set technical direction, assign and prioritize work, and review designs, code and documentation.
- Hold regular 1:1s; set goals and development plans; provide input to performance reviews.
- Mentor and coach engineers toward independent ownership of calibration areas.
- Take part in hiring and onboarding for the calibration team.
- Represent the team in design reviews and program meetings; coordinate dependencies and schedules with HW, systems and test teams across sites.
- Escalate resource, schedule and technical risks to the Calibration Software Engineering Manager.
- BS, MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- 8+ years of experience developing calibration, measurement, test or instrumentation systems, including hardware/software integration.
- Strong programming skills in C, C++, C# and/or Python for instrument control, data acquisition and algorithm development.
- Hands-on experience with precision measurement, calibration methods, error analysis and statistical data analysis.
- Experience with bench instrumentation (DMM, oscilloscope, spectrum analyzer, power meter) and with automating measurements.
- Demonstrated technical leadership: leading projects, mentoring engineers, or directing the work of others.
- Clear communicator who can influence across HW, SW and test functions and multiple sites.
Qualification
Preferred
- Experience with ATE or semiconductor test equipment.
- Experience creating calibration strategy documents and HW error budgets.
- Prior experience supervising engineers or serving as a team lead.
- We are only considering candidates local to position location and are unable to provide relocation for this position.
Benefits
- The base salary range for this role is $167,200–$267,600. This range is a good faith estimate, and the amount of base salary will correspond with experience and skill set. This range can also fluctuate depending on demand and location.
- Teradyne offers a variety of robust health and well-being benefit programs, including medical, dental, vision, Flexible Spending Accounts, retirement savings plans, life and disability insurance, paid vacation & holidays, tuition assistance programs, and more.
